B.E. (Buzz) Pruitt has been a health educator fo more than 30 years. He has directed major curriculum development projects related to drug-use prevention, sex education, and comprehensive health education. He presently conducts research and is a Professor of Health Education at Texas A&M University. Decisions for Healthy Living incorporates Pruitt's own philosophy of well-being. His approach is neutral and non-judgmental, particularly in the field of human sexuality, in which he specializes.
Buzz recently won the "2002 AAHE Professional Service Award" from the American Association for Health Education. He has also received honors from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD); the University of North Texas; the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University; the Texas Association of School Administrators; Eric Clearinghouse on Teacher Education; Southwest Texas State University; the Association for the Advancement of Health Education; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and the Danforth Foundation. He is an active member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) and the American School Health Association. He is also the founder and president of the Health Education Foundation of Texas.
Jane Stein has spent more than 40 years writing about health care, translating often complex medical information into understandable terms for the lay reader. Her philosophy about how to communicate health issues is reflected in Decisions for Healthy Living. She is the author of Making Medical Choices and hundreds of articles in the popular press, and she has also served as editor and publisher of national health publications. She is president of The Stein Group, a publications development and management firm specializing in health and health policy issues including women's health, mental health, substance abuse, and access to and quality of care.
Jane is a founder and former board member of Washington Independent Writers, is a lifetime member of the National Association of Science Writers, and has taught nonfiction writing at The American University in Washington, D.C.
